Soyolmaa Batbekh joined the NRCC in 2014 as a researcher. Since 2021, she has been working as a senior researcher. Her previous experience includes associate professor of the Department of Economics, NUM between 2010 and 2021, loan officer of the Sustainable Livelihood Project of the Government of Mongolia, funded by the World Bank, between 2002 and 2003.
Her research areas of expertise are macroeconomics, income distribution, and impact evaluation. She has published her research in peer-reviewed economics journals. Her study on the impacts of vocational training on youth unemployment has been published at the World Bank Economic Review, one of the top economics journals. She introduced a peer review system into the Economics: Theory, Practice journal by the Department of Economics when she was associate editor of it.
She received many research grants and successfully implemented the projects. Projects include “Inclusive Growth and Labor Market”, by a grant from the Mongolian Science and Technological Fund, “Impacts of Short Term Vocational Training for Youth Unemployment”, by a grant from the Partnership for Economic Policy (PEP), and “Impacts of Universal Childcare Service on Women’s Employment”, by a grant from the PEP and the World Bank.
Alongside her academic research, her experience in consulting for international organizations, governmental and non-governmental organizations, and the private sector is rich. She worked as a researcher of the national team for T21-Mongolia Macroeconomic Model, National Development and Innovation Committee; Assessing the Gender Gap in Inclusive Finance in Mongolia, Financial Regulatory Committee; Evaluation of Consumer Confidence in Current Financial Market and Near Future, Financial Regulatory Committee.
She obtained her PhD and MSc in Economics from the University of Manchester, UK, BA in Economics from the National University of Mongolia.
