Loan Demand and Saving Preference

In the 1st quarter of 2017, 59.3 percent of households prefer savings in tugrug over the other type of savings and this percent was 42.1 percent in the same quarter of 2016. On the other hand, the percentage of households who prefer savings in foreign currency has decreased by 11.6 percentage points and reached to 16.3 percent and the percentage of households who prefer investment in immoveable assets has decreased by 6.6 percentage points and reached to 23 percent (see figure 1).

In the 1st quarter of 2017, 16.2 percent of households are planning to take loans. This is decreased by 0.9 percentage points from the level in the same period of last year and 7.1 percentage points from the level in 2015 (see figure 2).
